Smoke Alarm Installation Narangba

Smoke alarm installation in Narangba is how you bring a home up to Queensland's requirement for photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms in every bedroom, the hallway serving those bedrooms and on each storey, with hardwired units installed by a licensed electrician. For most Narangba families, the real goal is simpler than any legislation: peace of mind that every bedroom is covered and the whole house will hear the alarm at 2am. We're Connected Electricians and Cablers, a Bellmere family business, and we help Narangba homes get there with a fixed price, a tidy install and written confirmation at the end.

Same or next-day installs with a 5 year workmanship guarantee

The whole job, one team

Supply and installation of compliant smoke alarms

We take care of the whole job. We supply the alarms, install them in every location the law requires, interconnect them, test each one on site and give you written confirmation that the system complies. You don't need to buy anything beforehand or work out which model to get.

  • Clipsal
  • Red
  • Brooks

Clipsal, Red and Brooks are our brands, and all three meet the Queensland standard. We choose between them based on your floor plan, your ceiling and whether there's existing wiring we can reuse. And because we only install alarms we supply, we're able to guarantee the result and back it with five years of workmanship cover as well as the manufacturer's warranty.

If you rent the place out, the same team handles that too, and the paperwork you get at the end suits property managers just as well as homeowners.

Ten minutes and a step ladder

How to check your smoke alarms are working

Before you call anyone, it's worth spending ten minutes with a step ladder. Here's a simple check you can do yourself:

  1. Press and hold the test button on one alarm until it sounds.
  2. Listen for the other alarms in the house. If they don't sound too, your alarms aren't interconnected.
  3. Twist an alarm off its base and look at the label. You're looking for the word "photoelectric" and the manufacture date.
  4. Walk through each bedroom and hallway and note where an alarm is missing.
  5. Snap a picture of every alarm, label side up.

If your alarms pass the button test but fail any of the other steps, they don't meet the current standard. Send us the photos and we'll tell you exactly what needs doing.

Signs it's time

When it is time to replace your alarms

Smoke alarms wear out. Their sensors become less reliable with age, which is why every alarm needs replacing 10 years after it was made, whether it still beeps or not. It's also time to replace an alarm when:

  • it's an ionisation type, or contains an ionisation sensor
  • the manufacture date is more than 10 years ago, or there's no date at all
  • it chirps regularly even after the battery has been changed
  • it keeps triggering false alarms from steam or cooking
  • it can't be interconnected with your other alarms

If your existing alarm is hardwired, the law says its replacement must also be hardwired.

Know the rules

Queensland's 2027 smoke alarm requirements for Narangba homes

The Queensland Fire Department's smoke alarm requirements have been phased in over ten years. It started with newly built and substantially renovated homes in 2017, then extended to properties being sold or leased from 1 January 2022. On 1 January 2027, the requirements extend to every other home in the state, including owner-occupied houses in Narangba.

That means photoelectric alarms to AS 3786-2014, no ionisation sensors, nothing older than ten years, every unit working on test, and all of them interconnected. Each must be powered by 240V mains or by a 10-year battery that can't be removed. Any alarm connected to mains power must be installed by a licensed electrician.

Where alarms go

Interconnected photoelectric alarms in every bedroom

In a four-bedroom family home, every one of those four bedrooms needs its own alarm. So does the hall those bedrooms open onto. Where the layout has no hall, place it between the bedroom wing and the living areas. A storey without bedrooms still needs at least one alarm on the path to the exit.

Photoelectric alarms respond quickly to visible smoke, which is what smouldering fires produce in the early stages. Interconnection means that whichever alarm detects smoke first, every alarm in the house sounds, so a fire near the kids' rooms wakes the parents at the other end of the house, and vice versa.

Older homes and new estates

Upgrades for Narangba family homes and newer estates

Narangba's housing ranges from established family homes to newer estate builds. In the older homes, we often replace ionisation or standalone alarms and add missing bedroom alarms. In newer homes, we check that existing hardwired alarms are the right type, still within their 10-year life and properly interconnected, then upgrade only what's needed.

Where existing hardwired wiring can be reused, we use it. Where cabling between alarms isn't practical, wireless interconnection is allowed under Queensland law, and it can be combined with hardwired alarms in the same system.

Between visits

Smoke alarm testing and maintenance in Narangba

Once your new system is installed, a little maintenance keeps it dependable. Test the alarms regularly with the test button, clean around each one with a soft brush or vacuum a couple of times a year, and keep track of when each alarm is due for replacement. If you'd like a professional check of your wiring, smoke alarms and safety switches, our electrical safety inspections start from $220.

Landlords have to test and clean every alarm in the 30-day lead-up to a new or renewed tenancy, while tenants take care of it at least yearly. Sellers, meanwhile, confirm compliance on the Form 24 transfer.

Questions Narangba families ask

Narangba smoke alarm FAQs

How much does smoke alarm installation cost in Narangba?

Compliant smoke alarm installs in Narangba are quoted as a fixed price before we start, based on the number of alarms and any extra wiring your home needs. No callout surprises, no โ€œwhile we're hereโ€ upsells. Every job is backed by our 5 year workmanship guarantee.

What if I've already bought some alarms?

We'll only fit alarms we supply. Fitting only our own stock is how we keep compliance guaranteed and the workmanship guarantee intact.

What does a single chirp every minute mean?

On most alarms, that's a low-battery warning. If it's a sealed 10-year or hardwired unit that keeps chirping, the alarm itself may be at the end of its life. Either way, it's worth a look rather than pulling the alarm off the ceiling.

Can a home office count as a bedroom?

If it could reasonably be used as a bedroom, it's worth discussing. We'll look at your floor plan and give you a straight answer about whether it needs an alarm.

How long does an install take?

Most homes are finished in a single visit.

Do you service nearby suburbs?

Yes, including Burpengary, Kallangur, Dakabin, North Lakes and the rest of Moreton Bay.

Do you do other electrical work in Narangba?

Yes. We've installed EV chargers in Narangba and handle switchboards, lighting, hot water and data cabling too.
