Done right the first time

Smoke alarm installation in Caboolture

Connected Electricians and Cablers handles smoke alarm installation across Caboolture the way it should be done: compliant, tidy, and backed by a real local electrician, not a call centre reading from a script.

If you have been putting off checking your smoke alarms, Caboolture is exactly the kind of place where that habit catches up with people. Older homes, hot summers, ceiling fans running non-stop, and the occasional storm knocking the power around all add up to alarms that quietly stop doing their job.

Smoke alarm installation sounds simple until you are the one standing on a ladder at 9pm trying to work out why the new unit will not stop chirping. Our electricians handle the whole job:

  • Assessing your current setup
  • Working out how many alarms your home actually needs
  • Fitting interconnected units that talk to each other properly

One alarm goes off, they all go off. That is the standard Queensland expects now, and it is the standard we install to every time.

We get a lot of calls from Caboolture homeowners who assumed their old battery alarm was “good enough”. It is not, and we will explain exactly why without making you feel silly for asking. Good service starts with a straight answer, not a sales pitch.

The law in Queensland

Is your smoke alarm compliant with the new QLD legislation

Queensland’s smoke alarm legislation has been rolling out in stages since 2017, and the compliance bar keeps moving. New and renovated homes had to meet the new standard first. Leased and sold properties followed. By 2027, every existing home in the state needs to be compliant, no exceptions. If you are in Caboolture and you have not had your alarms checked recently, there is a good chance you are already behind.

The legislation requires interconnected, photoelectric smoke alarms in every bedroom, in hallways connecting bedrooms to the rest of the house, and on every level of the home. Ionisation alarms, the old dust-sensitive type, no longer cut it. If your alarms are more than ten years old (check the manufacture date on the back), they need replacing regardless of whether they still beep during a test.

Interconnected photoelectric alarms explained

Photoelectric alarms use a light sensor to detect smoke particles, which makes them faster to respond to smouldering fires, the slow-burning kind that produce a lot of smoke before any flame. That matters because most house fires start exactly that way, in a couch, a power board, or a pile of laundry, not with a dramatic flash.

Interconnection is the other half of the equation. When one alarm senses smoke, every alarm in the house sounds at once. If a fire starts in the garage or a back bedroom, you and your family hear about it immediately, wherever you are sleeping. We wire our systems so they are properly interconnected, not just installed side by side and hoping for the best.

Hardwired versus battery smoke alarms

Hardwired alarms connect directly to your home’s electrical system, usually with a battery backup in case the power drops out. Battery-only alarms rely entirely on that battery, which means someone in the house is responsible for remembering to change it, every single time, forever.

Under current QLD legislation, hardwired interconnected alarms are the requirement for most homes, and honestly, they are the better option regardless of what the law says.

No forgotten battery has ever saved a life at 2am.

Brands we supply and install

Compliant units, chosen for your home

We supply and install Clipsal, Red Professional and Brooks smoke alarms. All three are compliant, reliable units that meet the current Queensland standard, and we choose the right one for your home based on layout, ceiling height and any existing wiring we can reuse.

One thing worth knowing upfront: we only install alarms we supply ourselves. We have had customers ask if they can buy a smoke alarm from Bunnings and have us fit it. The honest answer is no, and it is not about upselling. When we supply the unit, we know exactly what we are putting into your ceiling, we can guarantee it is genuinely compliant, and we stand behind the whole installation with our workmanship guarantee. A customer-supplied unit removes that certainty, and for a safety device, certainty is the entire point.

Fixed, upfront pricing

Fixed, upfront pricing with no hidden charges

Nobody likes getting a call halfway through a job asking for more money. We quote a fixed price before we start, based on the number of alarms and any extra wiring your home needs, and that is the number you pay. No callout surprises, no “while we’re here” upsells for things you did not ask for. If your circumstances genuinely change once we are on site, we will tell you before we do anything, not after.

Every smoke alarm installation we complete is backed by our 5 year workmanship guarantee. If something we installed fails within that window, we come back and fix it, no arguments and no fresh invoice. That is on top of the manufacturer’s warranty on the alarm unit itself. It is one of the reasons Caboolture homeowners keep calling us back for their other electrical work too.

Fixed, upfront pricing
from $690

Compliant smoke alarm installs in Caboolture (starting at $690.00 for a three-bedroom single-level home), quoted as a fixed price before we start, based on the number of alarms and any extra wiring your home needs. No callout surprises, no “while we’re here” upsells. Every job is backed by our 5 year workmanship guarantee.

Selling or renting

Selling or renting your Caboolture home? Get compliant first

If you are selling, Queensland law requires compliant smoke alarms at the point of sale, and buyers’ solicitors do check. If you are a landlord or property manager, your obligation is even stricter, since rental properties needed to be compliant well before the 2027 deadline for owner-occupied homes.

Getting this sorted before you list or before a new lease starts avoids a scramble at settlement or a fine you did not see coming. We work with several Caboolture property managers for exactly this reason and can turn around compliance certificates quickly.

What a compliant smoke alarm system looks like

Every Caboolture property is a little different, but a compliant system generally covers:

  • A photoelectric, interconnected alarm in every bedroom
  • An alarm in the hallway or area connecting bedrooms to the rest of the home
  • An alarm on each level of a multi-storey home
  • Hardwired power with 10-year lithium battery backup
  • Installation and testing by a licensed electrician

We walk your property, map out exactly what is needed, and give you a fixed quote before anything is touched.

Local, never a call centre

You’re talking to a real local electrician who works in Caboolture, Bellmere and the wider Moreton Bay region, not a national franchise routing your call interstate. Josh Atkinson personally answers or returns every call, and the person who quotes your job is often the same person who turns up to do it.
